Position Overview:

The Resource Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction to students with disabilities, working within a collaborative environment to support individual student needs and ensure full inclusion within the general education setting. This position plays a crucial role in the academic success of students who have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and is responsible for modifying curriculum, delivering specialized instruction, and ensuring that all students are meeting their educational goals in alignment with their IEPs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instructional Support:

  • Develop and implement individualized instructional plans for students with special needs in accordance with their IEPs.
  • Provide direct and pull-out support to students as necessary, focusing on core academic skills in subjects such as reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Adapt general education curriculum and materials to meet the needs of students with varying disabilities.
  • Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with general education teachers to ensure that students with disabilities are integrated and supported in the general education environment.
  • Actively participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with the Special Education team, parents, and school leadership.
  • Provide regular updates to parents regarding student progress and strategies for supporting learning at home.
  • Data-Driven Instruction:

  • Monitor and track student progress toward IEP goals and objectives, and adjust instructional methods accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Use data to inform instruction and assess the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Professional Development:

  • Attend and participate in professional development sessions related to special education, instructional strategies, and best practices for students with disabilities.
  • Stay informed of current trends, policies, and strategies in special education.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Illinois State Certification in Special Education (LBS1).
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in an urban or charter school setting.
  • Knowledge of current special education laws, practices, and IEP processes.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a collaborative school environment.
  • Passion for urban education and commitment to the academic and personal growth of students.
