Position Overview:
As a Special Education Resource Teacher, you will work with students who have a variety of needs, including Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), Autism, Behavioral Disorders (BD), Other Health Impairments (OHI), and more. While most students fall within the mild to severe range, profound cases are referred to therapeutic day partners.
This role will focus on pull-out instruction, providing individualized and small-group support to approximately 17 students. You’ll have the opportunity to create meaningful learning experiences that will positively impact students' academic and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction to students with varying needs through pull-out services.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs.
- Work with students across a range of disabilities, including SLD, Autism, BD, OHI, and others.
- Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, therapists, and families to support student learning.
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting strategies to maximize growth.
- Participate in Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings, where collaboration and mentorship are highly valued.
What Skills Are Required?
- Passion for working with students with diverse learning needs.
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet the needs of students with mild to severe disabilities.
- Effective behavior management strategies to support student success.
- Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of educators and specialists.
What to Expect on Day One:
- A full onboarding day, where the SPED Administrator will walk through systems, access, processes, and expectations.
- Immediate integration into a supportive and collaborative environment, with team members ready to help.
- Introduction to key resources, schedules, and supply locations to set you up for success.
A Typical Day/Week in This Role:
- Work with approximately 8-12 students in a Self-Contained Classroom.
- Address a range of learning disabilities and behavioral needs.
- Participate in weekly SPED team meetings to discuss student progress and best practices.
- Collaborate daily with other educators and therapists to ensure a comprehensive support system.
- Receive professional development and mentorship opportunities through the district’s Professional Learning Community (PLC).
