Our secure facility, collaborative team, and strong connection with families make this a place where both students and staff succeed together.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and resilient Special Education Teacher to work with high-needs students, primarily those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The majority of students are non-verbal, and many display aggressive behaviors. Success in this role requires the ability to build trust, remain calm under pressure, and embrace each day as a new challenge. If you are ready to work 1:1 with students in a highly structured yet dynamic environment, this is the role for you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work 1:1 with students in all learning scenarios, adapting instruction to meet individual needs.
- Develop strong bonds with students to establish trust and create a safe, structured learning environment.
- Implement behavior management strategies, including data-driven interventions and de-escalation techniques.
- Record and analyze student progress weekly, utilizing behavioral graphing and developmental tracking tools.
- Participate in daily team meetings for teacher/paraprofessional assignments and quarterly data review meetings.
- Follow school protocols for student safety, including no-touch procedures and using designated pads for constraint when necessary.
- Engage with families and participate in bi-monthly school events to foster a sense of community.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Experience working with high-needs ASD students.
- Ability to work with 80% non-verbal students, many of whom display aggressive behaviors.
- Strong trust-building skills and the ability to form meaningful bonds with students.
- Willingness to seek help, ask questions, and participate in ongoing training.
- Comfort in an unpredictable environment
What You Can Expect on Day One:
- NEST Training: All new hires receive comprehensive training, including no-touch protocols and proper use of pads for student restraint.
- Orientation: Tour of the facility, classroom setup, and introduction to the daily rhythm of student learning.
- Hands-On Learning: Expect to jump in quickly, working 1:1 with students while receiving guidance and support.
- Collaboration: Join a welcoming and dedicated team that values communication and teamwork.
A Typical Day in This Role:
- Every day brings new challenges and rewards. There is structure in the classroom, with designated areas for student belongings and learning stations.
- 1:1 teaching is the core focus, ensuring that every student receives individualized attention.
- Data collection and behavior tracking are ongoing, with weekly reporting and quarterly review meetings.
- Some days will be smooth, while others may be physically or emotionally demanding—but seeing the progress of students with severe needs over time makes it all worthwhile.
School Culture & Environment:
- Inclusive & Supportive: The school values its students, staff, and families, creating an environment where everyone feels included.
- Community Engagement: Regular bi-monthly events, homecoming celebrations, and a “Partner of the Month” recognition program highlight the school’s commitment to collaboration and appreciation.
- Parent & Family Connection: Parent testimonials and involvement are a key part of the school’s culture, strengthening the support system for students.
Additional Details:
- Parking & Accessibility: Easy-to-access parking and entry.
