Self-Contained Special Education Teacher (Contract-to-Hire)
Location: Lake Villa Area, IL
Pay: $43–$50/hour
Contract Type: Contract-to-Hire
School Year: 2025–2026


Why This Position?

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful and visible impact in a high-needs classroom serving students with moderate to severe Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who are primarily non-verbal. This is one of the most unique and supported classrooms in the district, receiving strong attention and resources due to its importance. You'll work alongside two dedicated paraprofessionals who help support the unique needs of each student. What Skills Must This Individual Possess on Day One?

  • Proven experience in self-contained classrooms, especially with non-verbal ASD students

  • Familiarity and comfort with alternative communication methods and devices

  • Ability to build structure and consistency while maintaining patience, positivity, and flexibility

  • Confidence in setting clear routines and using tools like STAR and ULS (Unique Learning System)


Onboarding Process

All new hires take part in district onboarding from 8/6/25 to 8/8/25. During this time, you'll:

  • Get oriented to district systems and protocols

  • Learn Embrace (IEP platform) and review IEP development processes

  • Be trained on ALICE safety procedures

  • Familiarize yourself with your classroom environment and support team


Typical Week

  • Build and reinforce structured routines tailored to individual student needs

  • Develop and implement customized lesson plans using STAR and ULS

  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals to deliver consistent and individualized support

  • Focus heavily on trust-building, student engagement, and daily structure

  • Attend and contribute to IEP meetings, writing the instructional portions of IEPs

  • Observe, assess, and adjust based on each student’s development and behavioral cues
